With hundreds of hours of compelling television produced…thousands of captivating stories told…from shooting on the run to being the Show Runner…award-winning producer Steve Katz’s career has literally spanned the globe. In his days as a foreign correspondent, Steve covered wars, terrorism, international diplomacy…even a royal wedding and the hunt for the Loch Ness Monster. He went on to become a TV Network News Bureau Chief before joining Fox’s iconic true crime series, America’s Most Wanted, where he rose from Supervising Producer to Co-Executive Producer and Show Runner. When he moved into the top position at AMW, he was given the mission of revitalizing an “old” show. By creating new franchise segments, emphasizing better storytelling, character development and writing, and updating the look and feel of the program, he helped increase the weekly audience by an average one million viewers over the course of a single year. While doing so, he expanded the scope of the show internationally, producing episodes from London, Kiev, Phnom Penh, Lyon, Belize, Rio de Janeiro, St. Thomas and several other overseas locations. After America’s Most Wanted, Steve’s career took him into strategic communications, where he spent several years as a senior executive with one of the nation’s fastest-growing agencies, driving the video storytelling for campaigns for a variety of Fortune 500 organizations. Now, with Maximum Sunshine Productions, his own development and production operation, Steve continues to create new and intriguing non-fiction television, as well as help corporate clients tell their stories.

I worked with Steve for four years, partnering with him on Digital for America’s Most Wanted. Steve is a consummate professional, completely levelheaded, solution-oriented, fair, and a great overall guy to work with. He fully understands the Television business, both as a show runner and as a network partner. He also has a strong understanding of the evolution of the business into digital distribution and marketing. I would cherish the ability to work with Steve again.
As an executive producer/show runner, Steve is the kind of supervisor every producer dreams of; he trusts his team to do a good job and gives them the space to do it. While he doesn’t micromanage Steve keeps a close eye on the integrity of the show. Even with an intense location travel schedule (national or international) he kept us all on track and focused on delivering informative and engaging shows on time and on budget. His encouragement, guidance and support helped me to be a better producer.
When Steve Katz was my executive producer, I felt that I was working for a man who loved both storytelling and the art of reporting news. The experience of watching Steve review a script or a television piece is often an educational one. Steve has a talent for helping a producer streamline the superfluous material to ensure that the viewer remains focused on the story. He conveys his points directly, relying on his experience, sense of humor and belief that the public should be informed in a clear and responsible manner. Interview subjects will frequently say that Steve treated them fairly, and respected their circumstances, creating an environment in which they felt comfortable opening up about deeply personal issues.
Steve is one of those TV executives who ‘gets it.’ He is adept at dealing with staff and getting the most out of his employees. What’s more: he always keeps his eye on the prize: the viewers. Steve is a competent leader who would be a valuable addition to any newsroom and/or television show.
